Langkawi Island did not disappoint in playing their part in the recent Earth Day event. Hotels and resorts around the island played their roles at 2 different parts of Langkawi to join in the event that seeks to save the earth.
A ‘Mangrove Coastal Clean-up’ event was organised by the Langkawi Authority Development with the Malaysian Nature Society of Langkawi with the Four Seasons Resort which was held at Tanjung Rhu. This event involved some 100 people that include the employees as well as the management of Four Seasons, some representatives from the 2 authorities and the locals around there to clean up the coastal areas. It took 3 hours for the participants who took a boat ride to the mangrove areas and picked up rubbish and thrash on foot.
Another event involved the planting of 1000 trees at Sungai Bukit Hantu by the 4 Startwood Hotels and Resorts chain. This event had 200 people joining in that include those involved with the chain that include The Andaman, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa, Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort and the Four Points by Sheraton Langkawi. Apart from that representatives from LADA and students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Teriang too were involved.
